Over the past several months, precision airstrikes conducted by U. The list, which includes targeted killings dating back to March, paints a striking picture of the U. According to OIR, successful strikes also disposed of number of other top media leaders around Syria and Iraq, including Abu Sulayman al-Iraqi, a top official who oversaw propaganda efforts aimed at bringing in and indoctrinating fighters and directing attacks worldwide, and Bassam al-Jayfus, a money handler who played a role in the international money laundering system the group uses to fund foreign fighter contingencies and international terror cells. The news comes at a time when ISIS is struggling to maintain a foothold amid devastating losses at the hands of Western-backed forces. Coalition planes have hammered the group with thousands of airstrikes and tens of thousands of bombs and missiles over the three-year U. Raymond Thomas, the head of the U. But while ISIS has been significantly weakened, the group is far from defeated. Even if the city and other ISIS-held territories are taken back, many analysts predict that the group will transform into a more conventional insurgency. But as the coalition continues to beat back ISIS on the ground, fighting the jihadi recruiters and ideologues who spread the twisted gospel of the Islamic State across the internet could prove just as important in the long run. Backed further and further into the corners of its terrestrial heartland, the group could begin leaning more on web-based operations to maintain relevance among the ranks of international jihadists, inspiring homegrown terror attacks like those that have rocked Western Europe in recent months.

He also revealed that the document would be published in a forthcoming volume by E. It was all very cryptic at the time, and Ehrman later complained that Wallace should not have brought it up in the debate. Ehrman argued that bringing up this alleged discovery without providing any evidence for it was dirty pool.
Teenage dating is unwise because it hinders the mission of sharing the Gospel. It is no sin to date other people as a teenager, but these five reasons I think are enough to put dating on hold until you reach the place in your life when you can begin to seriously think about and prepare for marriage.
However, considering that many other high profile websites have addressed it, including the other primary SBC site SBCvoices, and the fiercely Calvinist, but not Southern Baptist, site the Gospel Coalition, as well as some of my divinity school colleagues like Chris Roberts who I am still friends with despite some of our other theological differences , it seems appropriate to come back to blogging in order to address this specific issue.
If you want to read it in its entirety you can follow the link here. The statement immediately created a buzz and several prominent SBC leaders sign it such as Jerry Vines, Jimmy Draper, Paige Paterson along with roughly other pastors, theologians, and other SBC leaders or lay leaders. A full list can be found here. It can be found here. While I agree with the post to a certain extent, I do think he overstates his case see below. Olson, an Arminian blogger at patheos, on the one hand , and a seminary colleague of mine whom I still consider a friend on the Calvinist end of the spectrum, Chris Roberts , both argued that the text of the statement, particularly article 2, sounded rather semi-pelagian.
Since that is the case, it seems odd that they would post something that seems so inflammatory. How could this not be divisive? If there is no love in our words, how are we to proceed. At worst, it was careless in its timing and possible phrasing.
Songs of the Seer: The Purpose of Revelation’s Hymns
On the one hand, we are troubled by the idolatry of personal consumerism and the politicization of faith; on the other hand, we are distressed by the unchallenged acceptance of theological and moral relativism. These movements have led to the easy abandonment of both biblical truth and the transformed living mandated by our historic faith. We not only hear of these influences, we see their effects.
We have committed ourselves to invigorating churches with new hope and compelling joy based on the promises received by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.

The structure and meaning of the Mass The Mass: Structure and Meaning Source: The altar is a symbol of Christ at the heart of the assembly and so deserves this special reverence. However, much has happened since it went up, including the Blogger outage. Scroll down for a report on that. More new posts will be added below this one.
The Gospel Coalition has been around for some time and we often read their publications. Recently, the group published an article entitled, “Dating across the Protestant/Catholic divide” where Chris Castaldo writes about the difficulties faced by marital unions between protestants and Catholics. Castaldo mostly discourages such unions and for that we commend him.
The late North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il, for instance, believed that Elvis Presley was a musical genius and that Japanese monster movies are awesome. Both of those things are true! And if tyrants, terrorists and totalitarians are not necessarily wrong about everything, then it follows that others are not necessarily wrong if they happen to share identical opinions with those tyrants, terrorists and totalitarians. We have to allow that such a circumstance, while highly implausible, is still possible.
Do you know who else attributed guilt by association? I was going to say Nixon, but him too. Given that this Very Bad Thing is at least one possibility, I have to wonder if it gives the folks at the Gospel Coalition pause. I have to wonder if they ever wonder about this, or worry about this. Put yourself in their shoes. He offers his own sanctified gut feelings as all the ethical principle anyone will need.
Josh Harris, a former evangelical pastor, wrote an influential book on Christian courtship. NPR’s Rachel Martin talks with him about the criticism he’s gotten from people who grew up reading his book. The book “I Kissed Dating Goodbye” has been something of a relationship bible for a generation of young evangelicals. It urges people to avoid rushing into relationships and gives advice like this.

The gospel transforms the teen years. A new book on living for Christ as teenagers — written by a teen. The teen years have been hijacked—by fashion, music, movies, and games; by the pressures of school, peers, and society; and by superficial expectations set by the world. But there is something more glorious than all these influences that has the power to change the life of a teenager: Written by a teenager for teenagers, This Changes Everything is a deeply theological yet practical and accessible book on how the gospel radically transforms every aspect of the teen years, including pursuing relationships, managing time, combating personal sin, and cultivating healthy habits.
In a culture awash with low expectations for young people, this book exhorts teenagers to embrace a gospel-centered perspective on their lives and pursue wholehearted devotion to Christ now. And they deeply encouraged this mother of teens, as well. This book stands out as a valiant work from one teen serving other teens and those who love them!
I pray that a multitude of teens would take up and read this book. In this book, Jaquelle points us back to the Creator of all things and his wonderful plan for us. With plenty of real-life illustrations,This Changes Everything clearly explains why the gospel matters so much and challenges us to live for the glory of God. As a young Christian myself, this book cut straight through me and gave me a deeper yearning for Christ, as well as practical ways to live a life more like his.

Back to issue Abstract: What are the purposes of the songs of the Apocalypse? What effect are they intended to produce? The article then turns to some of the key theological emphases the songs — in particular Christological and salvific themes. For this reason, they pose a much-needed challenge to many contemporary praise practices.
The Book of Revelation is, quite literally, hymn-laden.

In a post titled, “I’ve Come to Set the Captives Free,” Tullian, who is the grandson of evangelist Billy Graham and the pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, wrote that the “the messaging of The Gospel Coalition has morphed over the last seven years” into something he feels is no longer consistent with their original mission: But his exit has been anything but pretty.
We would’ve loved to have had more time to get things ready on our end,” he wrote. While somewhat blindsided, Tchividjian admitted to the Christian Post that tensions had been forming between himself and several of the other members on the board due to the controversy surrounding Sovereign Grace Ministries’ founder, C. Last year, Mahaney and several other ministry leaders were hit with a civil lawsuit alleging that the organization plotted to “permit sexual deviants to have unfettered access to children for purposes of predation and to obstruct justice by covering up ongoing past predation.
He believes, given that Mahaney’s brother-in-law and fellow former pastor at Covenant Life Church had confessed to knowing about sex abuse claims and withholding that information from police last week, the SGM pastor was guilty. These people, they’re family. Of course he knew,” Tchividjian told The Christian Post. I thought it was insensitive. I communicated with the guys who wrote this statement that I was disappointed, that I thought it was unwise and premature and that they needed to clarify that their statement was not a statement from The Gospel Coalition, per se, but was their own personal statement,” Tchividjian explained.
